To be honest I don't watch the show. But I saw this interview yesterday with Aarti Sequeira, winner of the 2010 reality tv cooking competition, who will now have her own cooking show on the Food Network.
Her story is so inspiring to me that I wanted to share it with all of you who have a passion or a dream but you've been waiting for the "right" time to begin. Aarti started blogging and that led to her greatness and the opportunity to live a more fulfilled life. If you would like to find a way to follow your passion her story is a great blueprint.

She so deserved to win this season. She is also major inspiration for me. If only "Carl's Party" had the same the same ring to it. :-)
It just goes to show you never know what will come of your efforts. That she started the DIY cooking show "for fun" and to help out her friends and it led to her current career is pretty fabulous.
Carl's Party doesn't rhyme as well but something tells me there are plenty of great "Carl" show names out there :D

Three things: First, the story is a great testimony for the idea that a successful outcome is not always the inevitable result of a well-designed, effectively managed, long-range plan. Quite often great success comes to the person who can create an opportunity from very little and then seize it. You know, the old "When life gives you lemons..."
Second, and for me, way more significant, is watching and hearing her joy when telling her story and describing her work. So many of the successful people I know share the same kind of passion for their own work. Sure, loving what you do is no guarantee of success, but doing what you love contains a built-in motive to make your project succeed. This is basically how I've been making a living. And you, too. And most of our colleagues, too.
My third comment is for Carl. He could host a TV show specializing in outdoor campfire cooking, and call it "Mindling's Kindlings". He could even write an eBook cookbook for the show, and have Amazon publish it for their digital reader.

Carl pointed out to me yesterday if you watch the clip with the volume off you can "see" her joy. She is able to convey so much warmth and personality with her expression and body language. I'm sure she'll be a fantastic host of her own show.
Also love your suggestion for Carl. Let's see if he runs with it. I think he goes camping at least once a year :)
