Updating your Feedburner Email Subject Line

Something had been bothering me (for freaking years) but, like so many other things in life, I hadn't made the time to fix it a priority.

If you've subscribed to this blog through FeedBurner and receive an email update in your inbox (like the one below) to let you know when I've published new content you may have also noticed the blog description that shows in your inbox subject line and within the email itself was woefully outdated. I stopped working in the Northern California wedding industry back in 2009 and gave up the name The Flirty Blog back in 2014 but the description still read: Fun and Flirty Wedding & Lifestyle Blog. She's One Very Busy Girl...

To say an update was long overdue would be an understatement. I had gone and poked around the FeedBurner website a time or two but couldn't figure out where or how to update that subject line.

So I did what I always do when I want to learn how to do just about anything, I turned to Google and chose the very first link at the top of the page.

It took me to Gretchen Louise's blog and a post titled How to Cusotmize Your FeedBurner Email Subject Line which in turn directed me to the Publicize >Email Branding >Email Subject Title field in FeedBurner where I was able to type in the new description I Found the Place a Lifestyle & Travel Blog for my blog.

It took less than a minute! I waited for the next email notification to come in before I posted here to say that it worked. So if you've been holding off on updating your own FeedBurner subject line, wait no more. It's easy peasy.

A new year, a new blog

Change is good. That's what I keep telling myself.

With the New Year I felt it was time to create change. At the top of the list I decided to launch a new blog! While The Flirty Blog (renamed in 2014 to: I Found the Place) has had a wonderful run I came to the realization it's now part of my past. Many of you who have followed it since 2006 know 2014 was the most brutal year of personal loss I've endured in a very long time. I felt anything but fun & flirty and am still dealing with a lot of stress and grief that has yet to be resolved. A divorce, the loss of two pets passing away within two months of each other, being kind of homeless for six months, and a round of health issues at the end of the year have been, to say the least, a bit much. I refuse to let any of it deter me and am focusing on the future even though some days are harder to get through than others.

You may be wondering why a new blog? Almost everyone agrees that Wordpress is the best blogging platform around. It has many features that Blogspot doesn't offer. I'll admit after investing so many years writing and photographing for The Flirty Blog I was always afraid to make the leap to migrate to Wordpress for fear of losing ranking with search engines like Google. Beginning anew gives me the perfect opportunity to launch on Wordpress and grow from here.

To be honest I haven't quite decided what direction the new blog will go other than to continue documenting my day to day experience whatever that might be. You know there will be food, travel with my tiny trailer "The Glampette," and fun. I also want to document the process as I create a new occupation for myself pursuing my lifelong dream of being a working artist, who's able to earn a living wage.

To each of you who have been a dedicated blog reader or if you only stopped by every now and then, I thank you. Knowing you were out there reading these posts inspired me to do more, just so I could write more. You helped inspire me to become a photographer and adventurer discovering so much more about the Bay Area (and myself) than ever would have happened if I hadn't continued blogging.

I hope no one is too disappointed to see this blog end. I'll be leaving it online as an archive but will now be posting over at www.Tinygami.Wordpress.com.

I hope you'll find me there and stick around to see what happens in the coming year :)

A new name for The Flirty Blog

Are you surprised? Sad? Or kind of relieved because the word "flirty" always made you feel a little uncomfortable?

For me it's a little of both sadness (to let the name go) and relief that people will stop thinking this is a dating blog or that I am some kind of out-of-control flirt :) The truth is I'm not a flirt and haven't ever been one. But the name was cute when I renamed my bridal accessory company to "The Flirty Bride" and more importantly, the url was available.

Now I'm in metamorphosis at the crossroads of a new beginning. The relocating part (leaving California) made me realize that living in a very liberal area the name "The Flirty Blog" (while disconcerting to some) was easily accepted by most. Having traveled the country last year I realized that a change was needed if I don't want to continue to be perceived as a dating site. And because the name never really fit my personality anyway, I began searching for a new one over the winter.

There were a lot of names I thought of. Most didn't have an available url. I tried to think of what does my blog embody to me? Words like adventure, inspiring, foodie, travel, tourism, seeker, etc. all came to mind. After months of no success it finally happened. The name just came to me out of the blue. Ready?

I Found the Place.com

Like it? I love it. It will allow me to focus on tourism and travel, two of my favorite things to write about.

I found the place __________ (<-- Insert topic here.)

The possibilities are endless: The best grilled cheese sandwich, an amazing view of______, to shop for _____, to meet _____. See what I mean?

The only thing that will change is the name on the header and the URL. I have so much on my plate at the moment I'm not sure when I'll make the switch. It'll most likely be once I relocate. But for now I'm just glad that I found the name I'd been looking for and it feels like a very good fit.

A new banner image for The Flirty Blog

Well, it took me long enough. I finally updated the banner image at the top of the blog to include The Glampette :)

Over the past seven years it's evolved at its own pace, basically when I felt there was a reason to spruce up the graphics or the message behind the blog's focus. I hope you like the new design. It makes me smile every time I see The Glampette whether as an illustration or hitched to the back of my car.

With the addition of The Glampette the blog is becoming more travel centric as I'll be covering more ground and venturing further afield than I have in the past. Basically I'll still be taking lots of pictures, enjoying desserts from time to time, and also visiting more wineries :)

The Flirty Blog's Most Popular Photos and Posts

Today I'm creating a "Best Of" list for the blog sidebar. I'll be removing some of the content that's been there for awhile and will instead add some of the most popular posts and images I've taken for the blog and will update the list from time to time. If you missed them the first time around, here's your chance to catch them now.

When I created the How Much Should Your Wedding DJ Cost blog post I had no idea it would take the DJ World by storm. Literally dozens of DJ's nationwide and around the world have linked in to this post.

Everyone loves the Chia Pet Kitai.... A Custom Halloween Dog Costume blog post but particularly people on Pinterest. Not only have the costume and post gone viral on the internet, it's inspired other dog lovers to make their own pups Chia Pet costumes too!

People on Flickr love this before and after photo of when I cut off 18" of my hair for Pantene Beautiful Lengths Hair Donation program in June 2010. after one hair cut a few months back I'm now growing it back out again so I can donate by 2014

The Promises and Pearls Bridal Soiree • SF 2009 was a wedding showcase I almost didn't attend due to my small but serious ankle injury that year. Remember Frankenfoot?

When my friend Juliet's sisters made these adorable DIY Baby Shower Cupcakes I'm certain none of knew that this photo would one day go viral on the internet.

Readers on Flickr love this photo from My New Favorite Dessert: The Raspberry Macaron at Patisserie Philippe. It's impossible to say if this dessert was as beautiful as it was delicious or as delicious as it was beautiful. Try it for yourself and let me know what you think!

Sign on San Diego readers love this Easy Cheesy, Vegetarian, Baked Ziti Recipe post and have been clicking over to The Flirty Blog for all of the details for months now.

People LOVE this post. about the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel Showcase. It's been receiving steady traffic for years now! I know this red and teal table top is part of the reason. There's also a stunning crystal, feather and floral arrangement by the very talented Nicole Ha.

Citizen Cake Fruit Gelees and Home's Bread Pudding are two of my favorite desserts in San Francisco. A Yelp reader sent me a profanity laced compliment she loved this image so much. LOL

Best Bridal Blogs - The Relaunch

OK, so this year was a bit hectic for me and because of that two side projects were pushed to the back burners. One was the Best Bridal Blogs website. It's a blog directory that lists blogs written by real life brides planning their weddings.

On average I'd say more then half of the submissions received don't make the cut for one reason or another, most notably either the blogger doesn't post frequently enough to meet our 8 posts per month criteria, or because the blog submitted belongs to a wedding professional and not a bride.

But in the past couple of weeks we've added some great new blogs to the directory. Take a peek if you're searching for fun ideas or advice from other brides.

You can check out www.BestBridalBlogs.com by Clicking Here and if you're a bride with a blog you can submit your own blog for consideration by Clicking Here. There is no charge to be listed, you just have to be one of the best :)

Some of my favorites from our latest submissions:

Great Name:

Two new International Blogs that both have informative content are:

And a Fun DIY Blog with lots of pictures:

The Wedding Floral Academy by Nancy Liu Chin

You may recall that earlier this year I mentioned that floral designer extraordinaire Nancy Liu Chin was going to host her inaugeral Wedding Floral Academy. Going well beyond the concepts of floral design, Nancy had a vision to go one step further and teach both design and entrepreneurship to an exclusive short list of attendees who are either in the process of starting a new company or wanting to take their existing company to the next level.

This image by Coco + Kelly

The three day intensive, held in San Francisco began on a Saturday night with an intimate cocktail party at Nancy's very stylish home. While mingling and chatting with Kevin Chin, Nancy's wedding photographer husband, I learned that their home had just been featured in Coco + Kelly, an interior design and fashion blog. Well in truth their home might have been upstaged by the surprise guest star of the post, Chin Chin, their adorable Bichon Frise.

Chin Chin managed to get in more then a few shots that day. LOL what is with cute dogs? My friend Rich Amooi did a post about my dog Kitai on his blog and said he received a significant uptick in traffic that day. And Kevin said the majority of comments they received on Facebook about the Coco + Kelly blog post were about Chin Chin :P

I wasn't surprised at all to hear their home was featured on Coco + Kelly as it is simply stunning. Impeccably and tastefully decorated and so organized I was green with envy!

This image is from the Joshua Charles website

The party held an extra special surprise. Caterer Joshua Charles was there and was the culinary maestro who presented us with an endless assortment of delectable hors d'oeuvres including beef short rib raviolis served in a spoon with gravy, lobster bisque shooters topped with a crispy fried plantain chip, a tender white fish slightly shredded in a creamy sauce served on a tiny potato chip and shredded duck with slivers of (I think) fennel on a small round piece of toast. Dessert was grasshopper fudge bites and home made vanilla and chocolate ice cream bon bons.

If you live in the Bay Area and are ever in need of a fantastic caterer you should contact Joshua. His food is always simply amazing and he genuinely cares a lot about the the quality of the food he prepares.

So, Monday afternoon I showed up at the Flower Mart to host a one hour presentation about blogging to the Floral Academy attendees. If you've never been to the Flower Mart it's something else. There are long hallways and large rooms filled with stalls with metal gates where vendors can sell their flowers and accouterments and designers can rent a workspace to put together their orders on location.

Nancy was there, hard at work, putting together a bouquet for one of the projects later that day. I had the privilege of hearing Nancy speak on Saturday night and loved her message to her students she was about to embark on the 3 day Academy with: Work hard, succeed and give back. These are all concepts I fully embrace. She explained to them that it isn't just about being able to make beautiful floral arrangements, it's also about being an entrepreneur, being a good and authentic business person.

Come to think of it everyone was hard at work when I arrived on Monday. At least two of the attendees have blogged about their experiences with Nancy. You can read their posts here: Audrey O'Brien from Studio Stems and Marian LeBrun's Blog from Savage Rose. Thanks for the mention ladies! It was my pleasure to come speak about blogging and web design!

There were finished projects, dishes, piles and buckets of flowers all around the stall for the many projects the designers would be working on that day.

Before my arrival the attendees had learned how to make these super cute Ring Bearer Nests using carnation flowers, grapevine wreath and ribbon.

The day was action packed. I had a chance to peek at the day's itinerary and couldn't believe how many projects the group was going to accomplish. After showing how to create each of the projects, Nancy gave honest critiques on each finished project. That's why keeping the size of the class small was a priority, so that she could give each person individual attention to make their experience with her more valuable.

This was so cute. A carpet of chrysanthemums atop a horse tail reed base for a unique interpretation of a ring cushion. I'm tempted to do a little experimenting of my own as I have a huge patch of horse tail reed growing in my backyard. Maybe a project for a rainy day :)

Nancy will be hosting another 3 day workshop next spring. You can check out the details by CLICKING HERE. Her classes are limited to 6 attendees so you'll be guaranteed to receive plenty of one on one attention from Nancy herself.

A New Flirty Wedding Blog Roll for the San Francisco Bay Area

What's new on the Flirty Blog? If you look about midway down on the right hand side bar of this blog you'll see a new blog roll. The list is comprised of Flirty Guide Professionals and contains the ten most recent posts made by them on their company blogs.

I'd noticed that Blogger had added this feature a few months back but what with everything going on with helping my cousin Tami adding one here was put on my things "to do" later list. Yesterday I was reading Robbie Schlosser's blog for the Magnolia Jazz Band and saw he had added a blog roll to his blog. Robbie has a thoughtful blog that delves into his career in the entertainment industry as well as some philosophical musings about how to be the best business person one can be.

It was a great reminder to add one here so here it is and this is how it works... Even though I have more then ten blogs listed on my blog roll only the ten blogs that have the most recent postings will be displayed in the side bar. This keeps things very current for my readers so that you can always catch the latest and greatest wedding and lifestyle news here on The Flirty Blog.

I'm Kicking Ass and Taking Names! Woo Hoo I'm One of the "Best of the best" Bloggers on Alltop.com

Well I'm not really taking names, but apparently I do kick some ass. LOL

Alltop, confirmation that I kick ass

I am THRILLED to announce that my little ol' fun and flirty blog has been accepted to the hot list of top bloggers on Alltop.com.

If you aren't familiar with it, Alltop is a collection of some of the top blogs on the internet. They describe themselves as a "digital magazine rack" where users go to peruse categorized topics, find blog titles of the top blogs within each category and view the 5 most recently posted items (with links) within each blog. Their goal is to provide "aggregation without aggravation."

For a mere mortal such as myself this is all very exciting. Alltop was co-founded by Will Mayall, Kathryn Henkens and a guy named Guy Kawasaki. As many of you know I am constantly online surfing the web and learning new stuff and no matter where I am or what I'm reading I can't help but notice that I hear Guy's name pretty much everywhere I go. Whether I'm at one of the Apple Geek dinners I attend, having lunch at the Apple cafeteria and especially in blog references and on various websites all over the internet I'm always seeing and hearing Guy's name mentioned by his friends, fans and colleagues. In my mind Guy is a mythical Apple guy/book author/web entrepreneur/venture capitalist/marketing/internet super hero. And now my little blog is part of one of his creations. Awesome!

Alltop is a website with a great sense of humor. Here are more of the web badges available to Alltop Bloggers to post on their blogs:

Alltop, all the cool kids (and me)

Alltop. Bribes work.

Alltop. Seriously?! I got in?

Alltop. We're kind of a big deal.

Well, I have to go do a Tae Bo workout now. Being strong enough and limber enough to kick ass doesn't come as easily as it used to when I was younger.

To the powers that be at Alltop, thanks so much for the inclusion! I'll continue to do my best to be worthy of the honor.
