Attend the 2012 San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade

Are you attending San Francisco's Chinese New Year Parade this year?

It's sponsored by Southwest Airlines.

I attended the Lunar New Year parade once, years ago, and took these photos with my old *gasp* film camera! Wow. That was a long time ago. There is so much to photograph at this parade. Their website says it is one of the few, night, illuminated parades left in the country.

You'll see dragons, lions, floats, dancers, and the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and her court. Depending where you sit there are also lots of fire crackers. There are so many my friend Judy warned me to bring ear plugs when I went in 2001 during the Year of the Snake. I'd advise you to be sure you bring ear plugs if you go. It can get very loud.

And I think you should go. It's a unique cultural celebration and though I didn't understand much of any of it, I did have a fantastic time! This year I'll do some research and give explanations in my recap post.
